Fernando Aguerre strengthens Olympic surfing dream


Fernando Aguerre, president of the International Surfing Association (ISA), continues his lobbying efforts to get surfing into the Olympic Games.

Thomas Bach is the new President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Aguerre met him prior to his election as part of his ongoing efforts on behalf of Olympic surfing.
"On behalf of the 35 million surfers on five continents, we offer our sincere congratulations to President Bach and best wishes for his important mission ahead", says the ISA president.
"We are excited and eager to work with President Bach and his team going forward and to continue to offer our sport of surfing as a way to strengthen the Olympic Movement".
More than to 100 years ago, Duke Kahanamoku, also known as the "father of modern surfing", dreamt of having the sport of waves in the Olympics.
Fernando Aguerre continues his journey, as ISA membership includes the surfing national governing bodies of 75 countries, on five continents.

The next Summer Olympic Games are Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
