Two Californian surfers have surfed the Petitcodiac River's tidal bore for 29 kilometers (18 miles) to set a new continental record.

Colin Whitbread and JJ Wessels have clearly improved the previous record of eight kilometers (4.9 miles) by riding a single wave from Belliveau Village to the causeway in Moncton.
The Petitcodiac River is located in New Brunswick, Canada. It is also known as the "Chocolate River" because of its brown water look.
The tidal bore has been growing in popularity following the extremely controversial decision to open the causeway gates in Moncton.
"There were death rocks three feet away, this is not for amateur people. "I mean to get involved in this, you have to be in expert shape, and be like a waterman", says Colin Whitbread.
"There's nothing like it in the world, so it's an experience totally unique. I'll never forget this."

In the next years, Moncton is going to promote its surfing tidal bore to foreign visitors. The endless ride attracted more than 30,000 spectators to the banks of the Petitcodiac River.
