I was in the channel during the Volcom Fiji Pro and had the pleasure of watching the event live. To say Slater dominated this event would be an understatement—he seemed to toy with his competitors like a cat does with a trapped mouse. In the same contest, Sebastian “Seabass” Zietz surfed like a man possessed, coming out of impossible barrels and surfing like a linebacker in the thick, powerful waves found at Clooudbreak and Restaurants. Seabass, however, would run into the Kelly Slater buzzsaw in the quarterfinals, and the rest, they say, is history as Slater went on to win the Volcom Fiji Pro for the second time in a row.
