Blood and drama in the waves of Jaws

Jaws delivered the last XXL swell of the 2013/2014 winter season. Broken boards, heavy wipeouts and capsized boats added drama to the all-star big wave surfing session.

Monday, 3rd March, 2014. With a giant groundswell traveling from the northwest, the usual crew gathered for the regular challenge. If Shane Dorian's there, the so-called "chargers" must be there, too.

This time, the god of the Sea had shifting plans for the surfing day. Light winds would give place to strong gusts, and the wave face would get from perfect glass to bumpy roads. Nevertheless, conditions changed every hour.

Surfers never knew where to position themselves. It was pure lottery. Waves were coming in the 12-25 foot range.

Grant "Twiggy" Baker lost four surfboards to the power of Neptune, Dege O'Connell got injured in his leg, and Dean Morrison felt dizzy after being hit by his own board. Is this surfing or boxing?

Shane Dorian caught a few bombs, and some of them ended up exploding over his own head. As if it wasn't enough, his wetsuit got teared in half, and he needed stitches in the chin. Bloody surf.

Danilo Couto, Ian Walsh, Garrett McNamara, Koa and Makua Rothman, Damien Hobgood, Mark Mathews, Nic Lamb, Ryan Hipwood, and Yuri Soledade were some of the other surfers out there enjoying Jaws' last yell of the winter.
