Gambia and Nigeria have officially joined the International Surfing Association (ISA).

The Gambia is a country located in West Africa. With approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) of coastline, it is bordered by Senegal.

"The Gambia is incredibly excited to become a member of the ISA. We know that our citizens will enjoy surfing and SUP, and hopefully be able to compete on a word stage within a few years," says Alieu Jallow, president The Gambia Swimming and Water Sports Association.

Nigeria offers 500 miles (800 kilometers) of coast and has Benin, Chad, Niger and Cameroon as its neighbours. Surfing is growing in Nigeria. The country was featured in Bruce Brown's 1964 film, "The Endless Summer".

"Becoming a member of ISA will give surfers of Nigeria a great opportunity in Africa. It will allow us to continue to develop our sport and its connections with tourism", underlines Adebukola Esther Etti, president of the Nigeria Surfing Federation.


Fernando Aguerre, the man behind the International Surfing Association, is getting closer to the reaching the 100 member mark.
