If you're a surfer and you're living 250 miles (400 kilometers) away from the ocean, the only alternative is the river. In Mendoza, Argentina, waves can only be found in a narrow river.

They are the pioneers of river surfing in Argentina. In Mendoza, on the eastern side of the Andes, fresh water means stoke. That's why Leandro Maturano and Beto Platero got their wetsuits on and tested the local ride.
River Mendoza has one of the smallest static waves in the world, but that doesn't keep a hardcore community of surfing enthusiasts out of the water.

With time, Maturano and Platero improved the conditions of the local surf spot. They've added metal structures to fine-tune the wave face, and a rope system to keep river surfing beginners in the wave.

The Mendoza static surf ride is located near the bridge. So, if you wipeout, mind your head. The outdoor activity has become a popular attraction and is expected to bring new adventurers to the sport.
