Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast opens the 2014 WCT season
The ASP 2014 World Championship Tour kicks off with the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, to be run between 1st-12th March, in Queensland, Australia.
Eleven tour stages, and 34 professional surfers. Kelly Slater is preparing to defend his 2013 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast victory, while Mick Fanning starts the season with the world title in his hands. What can we expect from 2014?
Everybody is looking for a strong, fresh start. The first surfers to hit the water in 2014 are Julian Wilson, Jeremy Flores and Travis Logie. An Australian, a French man, and a South African charger. It can't get any better.
The ASP 2014 World Championship Tour roster has 13 Australian surfers, seven Brazilians, five Americans, three Hawaiians, two South African wave riders, one Polynesian, one French, one Portuguese, and one Spanish surfer.
There will be a complete separation of the rankings. The ASP 2014 Championship Tour results will be counting exclusively to the WCT rankings, while ASP Prime and Star results will be counting exclusively to the ASP Qualification Series (QS) rankings.
