British surfers ride the Severn Bore

It's a rare wave. The Severn Bore has resuscitated and, with its new life, dozens of surfers, bodyboarders and kayakers took their gear out of the attic and hit the surf.

The Severn Bore is one of the best river waves is the world. Despite being considered a dangerous stunt, the truth is that nobody cares. Surfers just have to do it.

In 2006, Steve King rode the Severn Bore for 9.25 miles (14.8 kilometers) and established a new Guinness World Record.

This unique river wave was first surfed in the late 1950s and, since then has been considered a surfing jewel for British riders. The Severn River has the second highest tidal range in the world.

Riding the maximum five-star bore means extra precaution, too. Rescue boats followed surfers so that no one gets left behind the main wave. Debris is everywhere and can easily halt any ride.

The Severn Bore can be surfed for more than an hour.
