Andrew Cotton may have surfed the biggest wave of all time, at Praia do Norte, in Nazaré, Portugal.

The British surfer has been riding the iconic Portuguese wave for a few years, alongside Garrett McNamara. On 1st November, 2011, the Hawaiian scored the largest wave ever at 23.77 meters (78 feet).

In the last couple of years, Cotton has remained in the shadow of McNamara, but that doesn't mean he is not riding the largest and most dangerous wave faces of the Nazaré Canyon.

Andrew Cotton, a professional plumber from North Devon, is a consistent big wave charger. Three months ago, he had shown he could step up for a potential world record by surfing an estimated 70-80 foot monster.

Now, British media is spreading the news that Andrew Cotton has beaten the world record set by Garrett McNamara. The Guardian writes: "the wave is thought to be 24.3 metres (80 feet)."
"It was victory at sea, really. I got one wave, as did Garrett. It was stormier, so way harder to drive the jet ski and surf. It was bordering on not surfable," tells Cotton.
