The Waimea River has once again delivered an unforgettable day of static surfing, in the island of Kauai, Hawaii.

Surfers didn't want to miss the chance, despite the alarming levels of a potentially toxic algae which already killed many dogs.

Surfing the Waimea River is a classic event. Locals dig the channel bringing a raging torrent of water. It takes nearly three hours to "produce" the lab wave. The powerful stream produces static rides.

When the water trapped behind the beach touches the Pacific Ocean, dozens of enthusiasts try their luck in the fast flow of fresh water.

Jamie O'Brien was one of the many surfers getting their boards in the shallow Waimea River peak. Face-plants, sandy wipeouts and perfect rides kept pumping the spot till midnight.
